Youth Internship - Achievers | University YMCA | Flexible Schedule At a Glance:Launch your career with the YMCA! As a Youth Intern, you'll gain valuable hands-on work experience, develop professional skills, participate in training and mentoring opportunities, and contribute to projects that support YMCA programs and operations.
This role is designed to help youth explore career interests while building skills for future employment.
Schedule: Schedule varies based on assignment and program needs Hours coordinated with internship supervisor 1.
Job Summary:The Youth Internship position provides educational opportunities for youth as part of the Youth Employment initiative to work through a 100-hour work experience which transfers to the identification and/or development of professional skills that may transfer to their future employment.
Duties and responsibilities vary based on assignment and needs of the department or project.

Essential Functions: Demonstrates behaviors and actions consistent with YMCA values, code of conduct and other policies and procedures.
Performs duties and responsibilities as outlined for the task or projects assigned (see the Learning Agreement).
Participates in training sessions, workshops, and application of skills necessary to perform assigned duties and responsibilities.
Communicates with identified internship supervisor reporting on progress, making recommendations, preparing reports, etc.
Obtains feedback from internship supervisor and coach to enhance skill development.

Relationships:This position reports to the internship supervisor who partners with program leaders.
The incumbent interacts regularly with staff and may participate in meetings to complete assignments or projects.

Qualifications: Required: Must be minimum 16 years of age.
Must be accepted into the YMCA Achievers Minnesota Program prior to applying for the internship.
Ability to comply with all rules, guidelines, and professional conduct set forth by your supervisor and by the YMCA.
Basic computer skills (when applicable).
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Commitment to fulfill scheduled hours to accomplish assigned duties and tasks.
Willingness to learn and ask questions to enhance the development process.
High School graduate or equivalency or currently in High School or in pursuit of GED.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Work Conditions:Achievers Minnesota Internships are designed for youth aged 14-24.
All participants attend placement-specific training as well as professional development workshops where they learn to understand how to successfully navigate the employment landscape and become a thriving team member.
Topics covered during professional development include skills self-assessment, post-secondary option exploration, career exposure, resume writing, interview skills, on-the-job fundamentals, professionalism/ professional communication, financial literacy, and team building.
