Machine Learning Engineer

Job Description

The Stevens Institute of Technology, within the Civil, Environmental & Ocean Engineering Department, is seeking a Machine Learning Engineer to join the iSMART Lab.

This role focuses on advancing cutting-edge research at the intersection of artificial intelligence, satellite imagery, and environmental monitoring.

The ideal candidate will contribute to innovative solutions that support real-world applications in water systems, infrastructure, and environmental resilience, while collaborating with faculty, researchers, and external partners.


* Advance research in satellite image processing


* Apply computer vision to river monitoring imagery


* Implement models in cloud and lab environments


* Supportproposal development and publications


* Contribute towards broader iSMART lab research efforts


* Transition research products to production and developing the required IT systems


* Implement operational research systems on cloud services and maintaining them


* Expand the use of AI/ML in the processing of satellite and environmental datasets

Qualifications


* Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D.

in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field


* Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and as part of a research team


* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience contributing to research publications or proposals preferred


* Familiarity with GIS tools, remote sensing data, or environmental datasets is a plus

Compensation Range
In compliance with the New Jersey Wage Transparency Act, the annual base range for this position is $50,000- $52,000.

This range represents the University’s good faith estimate of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Stevens Institute of Technology determines compensation based on factors including the position’s scope and responsibilities, the candidate’s experience, education, skills, internal equity, market data, and organizational considerations.

The final salary will be set considering departmental budget, qualifications, and relevant credentials.

This pay range represents base pay only and excludes additional forms of compensation, such as incentives, stipends, or other applicable pay components.
