Lead Cook - Van Buren Family Shelter

Thinks, communicates, and behaves as a cause-driven leader and role model for other staff and members when it comes to desired staff behaviors; promotes youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility in all job-related functions.Leads and provides guidance in prep and cooking food for meals and special events according to the established menu; cleaning kitchen and dining hall after meals.Trains new staff on implementing a quality control program that provides all groups with the highest quality of meal service, within established guidelines.Provides support and guidance in overseeing the health and safety of the food service operation including, but not limited to: compliance with all Health Department requirements; daily cleanliness of kitchen and dining hall, including storage areas and refrigeration units.Collaborates with the Kitchen Manager to create weekly menus and meal planning to determine food orders based on the allocated budget and available inventory.Works jointly with the Kitchen Manager to oversee Pregnancy and Diabetic snacks for guests as well as the Sack Meal Program.

Provides exemplary service to all participants in our Center and responds to their needs in a timely and polite manner.Ensures and assists in coordinating individual participants in accommodating special dietary needs.Works cooperatively with all program staff, managers, directors, and vendors to best meet the needs of all staff and participants.Operates Groen cook/chill system with optimal efficiency and safety, for daily meal preparation and catering.Adheres to all policies and procedures related to abuse risk management, while reporting suspicious or inappropriate behaviors.

Complies with all procedures related to supervision of you and follows the YMCAs training and reporting requirements.Ability to work effectively with diverse groups and viewpoints from all social and economic segments of the organization and community.
