About the Role
The PSS Generalist II - Employee & Labor Relations is a senior-level HR professional responsible for independently managing complex employee- and labor-relations matters while promoting a fair, consistent, and inclusive workplace culture.
This role serves as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert to leadership, employees, and union representatives.
The Generalist II leads workplace investigations, grievance resolution, and performance interventions, ensuring compliance with employment laws and collective bargaining agreements.
The position also partners closely with leadership to enhance organizational effectiveness and foster positive labor-management relationships.
Key Responsibilities
* Serve as the first point of contact for employee relations concerns, providing expert consultation on conflict resolution, policy interpretation, and workplace conduct.
* Independently manage complex employee and labor relations issues, including investigations, disciplinary actions, and grievances.
* Support or lead grievance processes, attend union meetings, and maintain collaborative labor-management relationships.
* Maintain accurate and confidential case documentation; ensure timely case follow-up and closure.
* Provide coaching and guidance to managers on performance management, documentation, and corrective action planning.
* Develop and implement Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs) and track progress.
* Monitor and ensure consistent application of employment policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreements.
* Track and analyze employee relations data, identify trends, and recommend proactive solutions.
* Assist with union contract interpretation, negotiation preparation, and compliance activities.
* Conduct exit interviews and analyze data to identify workforce trends.
* Partner with Payroll and People Support Services (PSS) to support accurate and timely processing of employment changes and terminations.
* Coordinate union communications and notices as required under the collective bargaining agreement.
* Support ADA accommodation requests and engage in the interactive process.
* Assist with Department of Health audits and monitor professional licensing compliance.
* Maintain and update HR policies to ensure compliance with state, federal, and local employment laws.
* Deliver training for managers and supervisors on topics such as workplace conduct, documentation, progressive discipline, and communication.
* Support initiatives that enhance employee engagement, workplace culture, and morale.
* Participate in regular team meetings and supervision.
