Alaska Marine Lines is looking for an experienced Diesel Mechanic.
Have you been working on diesel engines for the last few years and are ready for a new challenge? We are looking for a heavy equipment diesel mechanic who wants job stability and great benefits in a career that will lead them to retirement.
This is a safety sensitive position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.
Other duties may be assigned:
* Diagnose & repair company equipment using specialized tools and meters as well as hand & power tools.
* Perform preventative maintenance to ensure reliability of equipment.
Foresee problems and make corrections before they happen.
Make sound decisions in stressful situations quickly and accurately. Spot errors and make corrections in the equipment repair process.
* Observe, listen and operate mechanical devices (both in and out of operations) to locate causes of trouble or signs of failure. Read company maintenance records on computer to determine correct repair procedures and other types of related information.
* Install new systems either as designed or as changed by the company.
Install special functional and structural parts in devices. Lubricate and clean parts. Make all equipment modifications on a level consistent with an experienced journey level mechanic.
* Start and drive repaired equipment to verify conformance to specifications and to test performance. Operate equipment as required.
* Adjust, repair and/or replace parts in engines, transmissions, differentials, brakes and other equipment.
* Adjust or repair hydraulic systems and components.
* Perform scheduled and non-scheduled work to support barge and fleet needs.
* Record daily repairs in M&R maintenance software.
* Perform field and roads repairs as required.
* Communicate in writing (email) or verbally over the phone with individuals in remote sites who are attempting to repair equipment.
* Have an in-depth understanding of the relationship between PM activities and lowest cost fleet maintenance/operations.
* Ability and willingness to travel to Alaska twice a year as required for varied lengths of time.
* Work with Shop Lead and Department Manager in maintaining adequate inventory of spare parts, materials, and tooling. Work with Purchasing Department in requisitioning items in the absence of Shop Lead and/or Department Manager.
* Learn and properly use the manufacturer’s service software with electronic equipment.

About the Location

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The primary function of this position is to independently perform advanced repairs on material handling equipment to the customer’s satisfaction while in the field.
Perform necessary service, preventative maintenance, repairs, replacements, installations, or re-building of components to restore material handling equipment to proper operation.
The ideal candidate should live in one of the following counties: Currituck, Camden, Pasquotank, Dare, Perquimans, Gates, and Chowan.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
* Review the work schedule, check the equipment and supplies required to perform the work scheduled, comply with PPE requirements, and otherwise prepare for duties.
* Use repair manuals, parts manuals, and parts diagrams to troubleshoot engines, engine fuel systems, transmissions, or other components on material handling equipment.
* Load service truck with parts & equipment needed for field repairs to material handling equipment.
* Use lift trucks, hoist on truck, & other aides to lift or move parts into position to be repaired.
* Use hand & power tools to remove, install, replace, re-build, repair, & test parts/equipment on engines, engine fuel systems, transmissions, & other components.
* Perform all necessary safety checks on the equipment per procedures & policy.
* Use miscellaneous resources & computers to reference parts, get information about parts & enter data into record systems.
* Use hand & power tools to disassemble/re assemble parts or equipment, drains fluids into tubs, cleans parts with rags, cleaners.
* Climb up onto, under, & into vehicles, uses hand & power tools to disassemble/re-assemble sheet metal, engines, transmissions, fuel systems, & other parts or equipment.
* Replace pumps, batteries, radiators, bearings, seals, wiring, solenoids, fuel lines, nozzles, tests float valves, glow plugs, alternators.
* Use hoists on service truck to move parts that need to be moved off of vehicle & onto service truck & to move items back to vehicle to be reassembled.
* Use meters, measuring devices, & computers to test & recalibrate equipment, trains operators when necessary, completes warranty paperwork.
* Perform inspections, do preventative maintenance, change oil, replace filters, belts, coolants, hoses, may drain/clean/refill fuel systems.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
Must have a high school education or GED.
Work Experience:
Six years of experience with at least two years of experience on Hyster, Yale, Clark or other similar equipment; Must be proficient in at least two mechanical systems (i.e.
transmissions, engines, hydraulics, etc.) for numerous model lines.
Physical:
Must be able to daily and repeatedly stoop, kneel, bend and climb onto and underneath various equipment to perform diagnosis and repairs.

Position Summary
Jeffers Crane Service is seeking a Field Service Technician & Mechanic.
Hands-on experience with aerial lifts, scissor lifts, and heavy duty trucks is a big plus but training may be provided to the right individual.
This is a full-time, non-exempt Union position working out of the IUOE Local 18.
Assistance with joining the local will be provided if needed.
Essential Functions
* Responsible for troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair on all makes of aerial boom, scissor lifts, and heavy duty trucks
* Diagnose, repair, adjust, and modify components as needed
* Reads, understands and interprets operating manuals, parts manuals, blueprints and technical drawings
* Positive interface with service writers, supervisor, parts department and customers
* Prepare proper documentation of actions taken
* Able to work with diagnostic equipment for troubleshooting and repairs
* Maintain conformity to safety requirements and other regulations
* Other duties assigned
Skills and Experience Requirements
* Must have a strong diesel engine, hydraulic and electrical background
* Strong initiative required; ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision
* A CDL is highly desired but not required
* Ability to work safely around moving machinery; to work in conditions with marked changes in temperature & humidity
* Ability to safely operate complex construction equipment
* Able to lift 50 lbs
Manufacturer’s training will be an integral part of this position.
Applicant must be willing to learn new computer, electronic and hydraulic systems, follow safety guidelines as they evolve in our industry, and remain certified within the various portions of our field such as assembly, disassembly, and troubleshooting.
