Radiology Tech

Weekend tech.

16 hour shifts on Saturday and Sunday.

7am to 11pm

The Radiology Tech performs basic to complex diagnostic radiographic procedures, as requested by a licensed physician.

The Radiology Tech exercises professional judgment in providing health care services, applying x-ray energy, to assist in diagnosis or treatment of patients in all age groups from newborn to elderly.

The Radiology tech is multi-skilled in the use of O.R.

procedures and equipment.

General Functions:


* Produces high quality diagnostic radiographs, by selecting and operating appropriate radiographic equipment, operating room protocols, c-arm use and advanced diagnostic procedures


* Practices aseptic techniques as necessary, understands methods of venipuncture and other sterile techniques, in agreement with state statues and./or where institutional policy permits, prepares, identifies and/or administers contrast media as prescribed by a licensed practitioner


* Rotates through advanced areas of diagnostic radiology to include procedures in O.R Urography room, open reductions, myelography, arthrography, placements and trauma


* Evaluates images for technical quality, assuring proper identification and procedure is recorded


* Assists practitioner with fluoroscopy, arthrography, O.R.

procedures and trauma


* Provides communication to patients for instructions and history in order to obtain desired results, gain cooperation and minimize anxiety


* Assumes responsibility for provision of physical safety and psychological needs of the patient during procedures


* Positions patients to best demonstrate anatomical areas of interest as requested respecting patients' ability, comfort and safety.

* Implements protective measures to prevent patient injury due to thermal.

Electrical, mechanical, laser, chemical and radiation sources


* Provides practical instruction, evaluation and precepting for students and/or other healthcare professionals


* Assumes responsibility for assigned areas, quality control of equipment and reports equipment malfunction


* Assures environment of working area, equipment and accessories are kept neat and clean Initiates anecdotal, incident, contrast agent variance and accident reports in a timely manner


* Performs related duties such as transporting patients, film processing and film filing as needed


* Utilizes resources efficiently and effectively


* Maintains safe environment


* Addresses patient population-specific needs


* Participates in Performance Improvement activities

MINIMUM EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology
PREFERRED EDUCATION: Associate's Degree

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE:


* Possession of current Texas Medical Board (TMB) license.


* Possession of American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, in Radiography or registry eligible.
