Apprentice Lineman- Transmission (West Texas)
Position Summary: The Apprentice Lineman - Transmission is an entry-level role focused on supporting the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical transmission systems.
Working under the guidance of the Crew Foreman - Transmission, this position requires performing physically demanding tasks at various heights and locations.
The Apprentice Lineman must be committed to safety and capable of working in challenging outdoor environments, including extreme weather conditions, and may be required to travel based on project needs.
To accomplish this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation, each essential function satisfactorily.
Essential Functions: Transmission Line Work: Assist in the construction, maintenance, and repair of energized and de-energized transmission lines, following all safety protocols and procedures.
Wire Stringing & Installation: Help in stringing transmission wires, setting transmission poles, and installing insulators, crossarms, hardware, and other related equipment.
Tower Work: Climb and work on steel transmission towers, ensuring all tasks are performed safely and efficiently.
Equipment Handling: Aid in the installation of transformers, switches, and other high-voltage transmission equipment, following directions from the Crew Foreman.
Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols, including the use of PPE, minimum approach distances, and fall protection systems when working at heights.
Grounding & Rigging: Understand and assist with proper grounding and rigging techniques, using hand lines, Kellum grips, and other transmission line tools.
High Voltage Work: Support work on energized high-voltage systems with skill and caution, under supervision, to protect yourself and team members.
Equipment & Tool Maintenance: Maintain company vehicles, tools, and equipment in good working condition and report any issues promptly.
Communication: Effectively use company radios and communication devices to relay information and follow directions from the Crew Foreman and team members.
Knowledge Development: Learn and develop a basic understanding of transmission line materials, equipment setup, and voltage identification.
Basic Rescue & Emergency Response: Be capable of performing basic tower rescue/escape procedures and assisting with emergency response activities as needed.
Compliance & Inspection: Properly inspect rubber goods, PPE, and other safety equipment, ensuring compliance with company and industry standards.
Other Functions: Assist with all other transmission-related work as directed by the Crew Foreman.
Willingness to glove/work live high-voltage transmission lines with appropriate training and supervision.
Participate in training sessions and safety meetings to enhance knowledge and skills.
Position Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED.
Valid Class A CDL preferred but not required.
Must be able to obtain Class A CDL License within 6 months of hire.
