Georgia-Pacific is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join the Paper Finishing Controls team within the Process Control Center of Excellence.

This corporate role supports reel, winder, roll handling, and related paper finishing systems across multiple manufacturing sites by providing hands-on controls and automation engineering focused on improving equipment safety, reliability, and long-term performance.

This position is home-based within the U.S.

with regular travel to manufacturing facilities.

As Georgia-Pacific deploys increasingly advanced reel, winder, and roll handling platforms, this role will help build the internal controls capability needed to troubleshoot, improve, and sustain these systems after startup.

The engineer will work directly with site Operations, Process Control, E&I, and other technical resources while converting field learnings into improved diagnostics, documentation, standards, and feedback for future installations.

Travel is required up to 50%, depending on site needs, outage windows, startup activity, and troubleshooting or optimization needs.

The ideal candidate would be based in Atlanta, Green Bay or the Southeast.

What You Will Do


* Provide hands-on controls troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for reel, winder, roll handling, and related paper finishing systems in partnership with site operations, process control, E&I, and maintenance teams


* Read, troubleshoot, modify, and validate PLC/HMI control strategies, including sequencing, permissives, interlocks, speed coordination, drives, motion control, fault handling, and machine diagnostics


* Troubleshoot and improve controls integration between reel, winder, roll handling, and associated upstream or downstream equipment to support simplified machine operation


* Support startup, stabilization, and post-startup improvement of new or upgraded finishing systems, with emphasis on operational readiness and transition to long-term site support


* Work with OEMs, project teams, and GP technical resources to identify recurring controls issues and convert field learnings into practical improvements for future system designs and installations


* Maintain controls documentation, program backups, functional descriptions, troubleshooting guides, and other information needed to support and sustain installed systems


* Develop and share repeatable controls practices, standards, and technical knowledge that strengthen site-level capability across GP facilities

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)


* Associate's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field.

Equivalent practical experience will also be considered


* Five (5) or more years of hands-on experience supporting industrial control systems in a manufacturing environment


* Demonstrated experience troubleshooting, configuring, and modifying Rockwell Automation / Allen-Bradley PLC and HMI systems
