Lead Medication Technician
• Provides medication services and direct resident care
• Responsible for the daily operation of the medication room and medication services in accordance with physician orders, state regulations, the nurse practice act, and facility policies and procedures
• Accurately and safely prepare, administer, assist with the self-administration of, observe and verify, and document oral and/or topical medications ordered by the attending physician or Medical Director
• Verify the identity of the resident before administering medication treatment
• Follow facility procedures allowing residents to self administer medications
• Follow the labeling policies and practices of the facility and ensure that all medications administered are properly labeled
• Maintain accurate records of medication and treatment services provided or omitted, including controlled substances, in each resident's clinical record
• Follow facility procedures in regard to charting medications and perform administrative requirements, completing necessary forms, charts, reports, and documentation requirements
• Note and report errors in the administration of medications; report all medication errors per policy; complete notifications, written error report signed by an observer/witness, and required forms
• Follow facility procedures governing drug receipt errors, including notifying the delivery source and Director of Nursing Services
• Document any instance where prescribed medication is not administered, including reason(s) for refusal
• Assist in developing and implementing procedures or programs that seek to determine what medication errors are taking place, when, where, and why they occur, and how they can be prevented
• Coordination with pharmacies, facility pharmacy, pharmacist, and outside services for medication orders, refills, destroying of medications, removal of discontinued medications, and return to the pharmacy or disposal per policy
• Properly store medications and equipment and keep the medication room clean and orderly
• Completes simple treatments, measure, record, and report vital signs, and monitor residents as directed
• Provides care services as directed by the resident's cooperative service plan; assists with activities of daily living, housekeeping, laundry, daily chores, lifting, moving, transporting residents, and evacuation during emergency situations
• Serves meals in the dining room, assists residents at mealtimes, provides tray delivery, and assists with dining room and kitchen clean up and maintenance
• Greets residents, residents' families, visitors, attending physicians, Medical Director, pharmacists, department of nursing, inter departmental personnel, and staff courteously; maintain a friendly, productive, working relationship
