A Brief Overview
The Biomedical Engineer Intern contributes to the research, testing, and validation of new concepts, providing data and technical insight to the R&D team to support the development of innovative products and help bring them from concept to reality.
This role may support all phases of the product development lifecycle, including planning, executing, and documenting verification testing.
This is a hands-on position with responsibilities that may include designing and building test fixtures, prototypes, product samples, subcomponents, or other experimental items.
Additional responsibilities include documenting bench test procedures, analyzing test data, preparing technical reports, and presenting findings to the R&D team. The intern will work closely with Merz R&D engineers and provide technical support as needed across all stages of product development.
Duties and Responsibilities
* Conduct measurements and collect experimental data using laboratory tools and equipment.
* Organize, analyze, and summarize data; communicate experimental setups and results through technical reports and presentations.
* Support product development, preclinical, and clinical activities through device verification, testing, and qualification.
* Assist with developing test plans and work instructions; perform laboratory testing and support training of engineers and technicians in testing and data collection.
Minimum Requirements
* Required:
+ Basic knowledge of electro-mechanical based systems
+ Hands-on experience with lab equipment
+ Ability to communicate technical information clearly
* Preferred:
+ Experience with Solidworks, and basic electronics design
+ Exposure to embedded systems
Education
Minimum Requirements:
* Currently enrolled as a rising junior or senior at an accredited college or university.
* Pursuing a degree in Biomedical Engineering (or Related field).
Preferred Requirements:
* Pursuing a Masters degree in Biomedical Engineering (or Related field).

Program Length:
* 11-week program (Projected Dates: June 1, 2026 – August 13, 2026)
Location:
* Raleigh, NC
* Full Time Schedule: 5 days per week in the office.
