Licensed Vocational Nurse II - Disease Control

The County of Riverside's - Riverside University Health System - Public Health, Disease Control division, is seeking a qualified Licensed Vocational Nurse II to join their team located in Palm Springs .

Under supervision and direction of a registered nurse, nurse practitioner, physician assistant, or physician, performs nursing duties within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act for vocational nursing in the care of patients in the Department of Mental Health or Public Health Ambulatory Family Health Center; and perform other related duties as required.

The most competitive candidate will have experience in communicable disease investigation and public health response, with familiarity using electronic disease reporting systems such as CalREDIE preferred.

This position supports the Disease Control Division through timely disease surveillance, public education, and outbreak response activities.

The incumbent conducts communicable disease investigations, responds to public inquiries regarding communicable diseases, and assists with outbreak control clinics and related public health initiatives.

Responsibilities include collecting clinical specimens (e.g., sputum, urine, stool, and blood), documenting cases accurately, coordinating follow-up care and prevention measures, and supporting safe community health practices.

The role requires knowledge of communicable diseases, strong computer literacy, and the ability to travel for home visits and clinic support.

This is a hands-on position combining clinical fieldwork with administrative coordination.

The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) is not an independent practitioner.

Incumbents assigned to the LVN II class have one to three years of experience working as an LVN.

This is the full journey level class for LVNs working in non-acute care assignments with the Department of Mental Health or Public Health Ambulatory Care.

Incumbents assigned to this class perform the full range of professional nursing duties within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act for vocational nursing with a minimum of supervision and periodic in-service training.

The LVN II is distinguished from the class of Nursing Assistant, Health Services Assistant, or Certified Medical Assistant, in that a state license is required of incumbents and they perform a more highly skilled form of patient care.

Required valid licenses and certificates:


* California Vocational Nurse's License issued by the California Board of Vocational Nurse and Psychiatric Technician Examiners


* Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association


* Valid California Driver's License is Required
