Structural Welder
JOB DESCRIPTION
Basic Job Functions
Plan, lay-out and perform all types of structural steel erection, welding, and fabrication work in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards.
Perform structural welding processes required for installation of steel members, connections, and assemblies.
Work in other crafts at levels appropriate to training and skills as requested by project supervision.
Must have the ability to take direction from a higher skilled worker or foreman.

Provide feedback to ensure all materials, tools, equipment, and information is available for the work.

High proficiency in all related trade mathematics.
Inspect subordinates' work, ensure accuracy and compliance with plans and specifications, explain deficiencies and take any necessary corrective action.
Eliminate waste such as waiting, rework, transporting, material storage, and time.
Lift and carry heavy items up to 50 pounds.
Perform structural welding using SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, or other approved welding processes as required by project specifications.
Read and interpret welding symbols, shop drawings, erection drawings, and welding procedure specifications.
Prepare base metals by cleaning, cutting, fitting, beveling, and aligning materials for welding.
Inspect welds visually and with appropriate measuring tools to ensure compliance with project and quality standards.
Operate welding equipment, cutting torches, grinders, and related tools safely and effectively.
Maintain welding certifications as required by applicable codes and project specifications.
Minimum Job Requirements
Must have a minimum of three years (level I), four years (level II), five years (level III), and six plus years (level Sr.) experience in the industrial/commercial construction industry and have an in-depth understanding of the ironworker and structural welding trade.
Must possess current structural welding certification(s) as required by applicable code or project specifications.
Must be able to read and understand drawings, specifications, safety and quality standards and effectively utilize all trade tools and equipment relevant to the work.
Possess effective verbal and written communication skills.

Work up to a 12 hour shift doing hard physical work in varying temperatures and outside conditions.
