Data Engineer Intern

Position Summary

As a Data Engineer Intern at Delta Dental of Missouri (DDMO), you will contribute to the design, development, and optimization of modern data movement processes that support enterprise analytics, operations, and data driven decision-making.

Working closely with experienced data engineers, developers, and data scientists, you will help build, maintain, and enhance scalable data pipelines and architecture.

Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities


* Assist in building and maintaining data pipelines for ingestion, transformation, and storage.


* Monitor and optimize data workflows for performance and reliability. 


* Develop and manage ETL workflows to ensure timely and accurate data availability.


* Contribute to the development and optimization of data architecture.

Collaborate with developers and data scientists to optimize queries and database design.


* Collaborate with data scientists and engineers to ensure data availability, quality, and consistency.


* Monitor and assist in overall database management.


* Work closely with cross functional teams to understand data needs and deliver solutions aligned with business requirements.


* Stay updated on emerging data technologies and best practices, contributing to a culture of continuous learning.

Qualifications


* Currently pursuing Master of Science degree or a recent graduate in Data Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.


* Foundational knowledge of SQL and database management tools.


* Basic understanding of Python and other scripting languages.


* Experience with ETL concepts, data pipelines, and processes.


* Basic understanding of cloud platforms or exposure through coursework.


* Knowledge of version control systems (e.g., Git) and issue tracking systems (e.g., Jira).


* Familiarity with analytics reporting frameworks and platforms.


* Knowledge of integration patterns (e.g., SFTP, API, and file handling such as CSV). 


* Knowledge of database management concepts (e.g., backup, query optimization, etc.).


* Excellent troubleshooting, teamwork, and communication skills.
