Position Summary:
The Senior Manager for the Optical Department is responsible for the oversight of the day-to-day operations of the Optical Department.

The Senior Manager will work with VP on the strategy of the department, volume, patient quality of care, patient experience, budget management and financial health.

The Senior Manager will oversee both locations, East Boston and South End.

The Senior Manager will provide coverage when necessary.

This role will also implement patient experience initiatives and action plans.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:


* Responsible for overseeing and implementing standards of care, finance, and contracts with vendors and sales reps.

Will also be responsible for analyzing financial strategy.



* Manage a team consisting of opticians, apprentice opticians, and operations assistants.

Oversee the apprentice optician program in accordance with Massachusetts Division of Apprentice Standards (DAS) policies for on-the-job training (OJT) and related technical instruction (RTI).

Responsible for office finances, maintain eyewear and/or lens inventory, maintain the optical practice management software oversee MassHealth patient orders using the MassCor database.



* Recruits, hires, orients, coaches, and evaluates all support staff.

Orients with new students and/or volunteers.

Collaborates with Human Resources on recruitment and retention strategies.  Analyzes turnover data and, as necessary, develops action plans.

General Opticianry Duties:


* Fill ophthalmic prescriptions for eyewear and contact lenses.


* Verify existing prescriptions using lensometry or other analyzing equipment


* Assist patients in frame selection based on facial measurements and prescriptions


* Recommend lenses, treatments, and frames to meet patients’ needs


* Take precise optical measurements (PDs, segment heights, etc.)


* Custom-fit eyewear to patients’ anatomy
