The Riverside County Department of Public Social Services is seeking an Accountant I/II to join the Finance and Forecasting Division for the Riverside location.

The selected candidate will review accounting transactions for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with the Department of Public Social Services and County policies.

The incumbent will also be tasked with preparing and reviewing reports, downloading payment data and communicating with external stakeholders and customers; validating payment and remedying any discrepancies; reviewing policies and procedures for compliance; and reviewing bi-weekly employee mileage claims.

Additionally, the incumbent will monitor warrants returned for destruction; perform daily deposit reconciliation; review Foster Care payment vouchers; prepare journal entries in PeopleSoft Financials; participate in audits; and prepare statistical reports with accuracy.

The most competitive candidates will have experience with reconciliation, PeopleSoft Financials, Access, intermediate Excel (including formulas and pivot tables), and data reporting.

The level at which the position will be filled is at the Department's discretion and is based on candidate qualifications.

The Accountant I is a natural progression underfill for the Accountant II.

Incumbents are expected to promote to Accountant II after obtaining one year of experience as an Accountant I, meeting the education requirement and obtaining a satisfactory performance evaluation.

Failure to promote to the Accountant II class will result in incumbents being returned to their former County classification or new hires being released prior to the end of their probationary period.

The Accountant II is the fully qualified journey level classification in the professional Accountant series and reports to a supervisory or manager position.

Incumbents perform the full range of assignments requiring a greater technical knowledge than those given to the Accountant I class.

Incumbents may be assigned the responsibility for an accounting subdivision or for the accounting function of a County department or may be given auditing assignments of average difficulty.

In addition, incumbents may supervise clerical or technical staff, and may mentor Accountant Trainees.
