Fire Apparatus Fleet Supervisor - Indio

T he Riverside County Fire Department is seeking a Fire Apparatus Fleet Supervisor in Indio.

The Fire Apparatus Fleet Supervisor will be responsible for planning, coordinating, supervising, and overseeing the activities of the East fire department fleet.

The Fire Department desires a candidate who possesses Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) III and/or Master Mechanic Certification.

Applicants who are current Riverside County Fire Department and/or County employees may be considered before other applicants, depending on the volume of applications received.• Provide technical direction to technicians for out-of-service criteria in accordance with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1911 or newer Standards for the Inspection, maintenance, testing, and retirement of In-Service Emergency Vehicles.

• Review equipment work requests and inspect Fire Department engines; support vehicles and other equipment to determine work needed.

• Coordinate equipment repair scheduling with the Fire Fleet Services Manager, technicians and equipment operators; direct the assignment of repair and maintenance work.

• Aid technicians in difficult diagnoses; review work in progress and at completion; ensure safe practices and proper use of tools.

• Inspect new equipment to ensure specifications have been met; prepare specifications for equipment purchases.

• Direct the maintenance of reports and records such as work orders, invoices, tire inventory, equipment, etc., that concern the repair shop.

• Interview and select new employees.

Experience: Four years of journey level experience in the repair and overhaul of Fire Department and other assigned automotive equipment, which includes at least one year of full-time experience, providing technical supervision to staff.

(One year of successful experience as a Fire Apparatus Technician III or its equivalent may be substituted for this requirement.)

Knowledge of: Truck and fire apparatus maintenance and repair procedures and techniques; sources of construction equipment and automotive parts, tools and supplies; new developments in fire apparatus equipment, repairs and maintenance; the principles and techniques of supervision.

Ability to: Read and write English at a level necessary for successful job performance; follow oral and written instructions; read, interpret and prepare specifications and other written technical material; diagnose mechanical defects on a wide variety of automo...
