Senior City Planner

Are you passionate about planning and community development and interested in working for a City that is creative, eclectic, inclusive and diverse?

If you enjoy a variety of tasks, from reviewing development projects to improving processes and software, this position is for you.

You'll also have opportunities to contribute to a rewrite of the City's Land Use Code and it's first area planning project.

The City is currently seeking a Senior City Planner who will p erform a variety of advanced-level professional planning work (both long-range and current) including project and program management, complex development review, historic preservation applications, assisting in developing land use regulations, and conducting planning research in a variety of social, economic, and physical areas.

Makes presentations to city boards, commissions, and council and responds to inquiries from the public.

The Planning Division has an ambitious set of projects currently underway, including:


* Development review process improvements


* Creation of a new Land Development Code (hybrid code) Implementation of new project tracking and permitting software, and a development review website and community engagement platform


* Implementation of our Economic Development and Housing Strategic Plan


* Implementation of the comprehensive plan


* Implementation of the recently adopted Multi-modal Transportation Plan, Wildlife Plan, and Climate Action Plan


* Implementation of accessory dwelling unit and short-term rental programs


* The City's first small area planning effort


* Implementation of state mandates, such as the Transit-Oriented Communities bill

The city is also experiencing steady growth with several large residential development projects underway, infill projects in our historic old town neighborhood, annexation requests and mixed-use transit-oriented opportunities near planned bus rapid transit lines.

We are a small but very talented and dedicated group of professionals, and this position offers an exciting opportunity to work in both an incredible City and work on a variety of projects that span unique development projects and several code, process and software updates.

The ideal candidate will possess a wide variety of planning and urban design experience, excellent communication skills, and be well organized, customer and employee focused, and eager to contribute to the success of the City.

TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of functions, principles, methods, and techniques of public planning including community planning, land use planning, and zoning.

Knowledge of the principles and tools relevant to land use planning, development, regulations, and permitting.

SKILLS & ABILITY:
Perform independent research on planning issues, investigate assigned planning and planning-related problems; maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, other employees and the public; work independently and complet...
