Bridge Project Engineer

As a Bridge Project Engineer, you will join our Transportation team in our Shelton or Middletown, CT office, where you’ll play a key role in delivering vital infrastructure projects across the Northeast.

Our Bridge Team and Projects 
At Tighe & Bond, our bridge engineering team brings decades of experience in delivering innovative, resilient, and community-focused infrastructure across the Northeast.

Specializing in the design, permitting, and construction support of a wide range of bridge projects—including vehicular bridges, pedestrian crossings, culverts, and complex structural rehabilitations—we collaborate closely with state DOTs, municipalities, and private clients to meet evolving transportation and environmental needs.

What will you be doing?
As a Bridge Project Engineer, you will work alongside project managers and senior technical staff to design safe, cost-effective bridge solutions—ranging from small-span rehabilitations to culvert replacements and pedestrian crossings.

Some of your day-to-day tasks will include:
•    Bridge Design: Perform detailed structural design and analysis for bridge components, culverts, and retaining walls in accordance with AASHTO LRFD and CTDOT standards.
•    Plan Production: Develop construction documents, including plans, details, specifications, and cost estimates, with a focus on clarity, accuracy, and constructability.
•    Field Investigations: Conduct site visits to collect field data, assess existing conditions, and support design development and constructability assessments.
•    Permitting Support: Prepare technical documentation and assist with local and state permitting efforts, including CTDOT and CTDEEP coordination.
•    Interdisciplinary Coordination: Collaborate with roadway, drainage, and environmental teams to ensure seamless integration of structural elements within broader project designs.
•    Construction Support: Provide technical input during construction, including submittal reviews, field visits, and resolution of contractor questions.
•    Quality Assurance: Participate in internal design reviews and quality control processes to ensure consistency with project goals and industry standards.
•    Mentorship: Support the development of junior staff through informal mentoring and technical guidance.

Required Qualifications:
•    Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
•    Professional Engineer (PE) license in Connecticut (or ability to obtain promptly).
