Superintendent, Roads & Drainage
Salary Range: $72,665 - $116,991 Salary Grade: 23 FLSA: Exempt
Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position.

Manages, directs, and evaluates assigned staff; develops and oversees employee work schedules to ensure adequate coverage and control; compiles and reviews timesheets; approves/processes employee concerns and problems and counsels or disciplines as appropriate; assists with or completes employee performance appraisals; directs work; acts as a liaison between employees and senior management; and trains staff in operations, policies, and procedures.
Organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work; prioritizes and schedules work activities in order to meet objectives; ensures that subordinates have the proper resources needed to complete the assigned work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; consults with assigned staff to assist with complex/problem situations and provide technical expertise; and provides progress and activity reports to senior management.
Manages the maintenance, repair and construction of County roads, bridges and rights-of-way; conducts on-site work reviews to ensure full utilization of personnel, materials, and facilities with concern for quality, safety, and efficiency; ensures compliance with all applicable codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, procedures, and specifications; ensures adherence to established safety procedures; and monitors work environment and use of safety equipment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals.
Monitors and inspects project plans; reviews blueprints or work instructions; assists with the procurement of needed materials; monitors project timelines and goals; and provides updates on project status and estimated completion times as requested.
Performs various financial tasks involved in department operations; assists in developing and administering department budget; monitors expenditures for adherence to established budgetary parameters; prepares and submits project cost projections for labor, materials and equipment needs; and assists in developing specifications for materials and equipment.
Receives and responds to complaints and inquiries; receives, answers, and remedies any difficult complaints or problems that cannot be handled by subordinates; and keeps related records and makes required reports.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate degree in Construction Management or related field required; three years of experience in roads construction and maintenance; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
