Deputy Coroner I/II

The Riverside County Sheriff's Coroner's Bureauis seeking candidatesfor multiple Deputy Coroner I/II positions located in Perris and Indio.

The incumbents will be responsible for conducting investigations to determine the cause and mode of death, and the identity of decedents in cases under the Coroner's jurisdiction.

Additionally, the Deputy Coroners will be responsible for testifying in court, preparing reports, and performing other related work as required.

The department is seeking candidates with experience in medical terminology, mortuary affairs/transport, law enforcement agency, and/or volunteer experience with the Riverside County Sheriff's Coroner's Bureau or an equivalent agency.

Candidates who possess a bachelor's degree or higher in Behavioral Sciences from an accredited college/university are encouraged to apply.

The Sheriff's Office is dedicated to serving the citizens of its communities with integrity, professionalism, leadership, and loyalty and believes in service above self.• Receives reports of death from physicians, law enforcement agencies, hospital personnel, and other persons; determines whether the case is within the legal jurisdiction of the Coroner.

• Initiates investigation at the scene of death to determine if death is due to homicide, suicide, accident, or from non-traumatic causes; secures physical, scientific, and pathological evidence such as clothing, weapons, drugs, bodily fluids, specimens, and photographs physical evidence and the scene of death.

• Fingerprints decedents; attempts to verify the identity of the decedent; interviews witnesses; locates and notifies relatives of the death.

• Speaks with physicians regarding the decedent's medical history; checks medical records and other sources to gather information necessary to ascertain the cause of death.

• Determines if case falls within the jurisdiction of the Deputy Public Administrator; notifies the Deputy Public Administrator or acts as ex-officio Public Administrator on evenings, weekends, or holidays.

• Testifies in court; prepares and writes reports clearly and concisely.

Salary:

$31.80 - $46.03 Hourly

$5,512 - $7,978 Monthly

$66,154 - $95,740 Annually

Education: Graduation from high school, possession of a Certificate of Proficiency issued by the California State Board of Education or attainment of a satisfactory score on a G.E.D.

exam.

Experience: None

Knowledge of: Procedures for gathering information and interviewing techniques; investigative principles and techniques and basic rules of evidence; physiology, anatomy and medical terminology used in describing cause of death.
