This position is for the PRN speech language pathologist for our inpatient pediatric program and the recently launched outpatient Pediatric Day Rehabilitation program. The primary location will be in the inpatient rehabilitation setting, serving patients with a change in status for conditions including but not limited to brain injury, spinal cord injury, and stroke. In addition, this position will float to the pediatric day program as needed, which serves patients 5 days a week for half day sessions via a combination of 1:1 and a small group settings individualized to each patient’s needs. Treatment in both settings will occur as a team with PT, OT, and ST, but will also require collaboration with rec therapy, music therapy, case management, MD, Neuropsychology, school reentry, and others. Patients will be a variety of diagnoses, but mostly neurologic patients under the age of 21. This position will also participate in development opportunities for these two growing programs.

Position Summary: Responsible for Behavioral Health nursing care, planning and management of patients in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
The registered nurse (RN) provides direct and indirect patient care services that meet the psychosocial, physical, and restorative needs of each patient.
This is a non-supervisory position following the Florida Nurse Practice Act and chain of command.
Job Responsibilities: identifying tasks (bullet points)
* Provides patient care following the Florida Nurse Practice Act including competency in basic skilled nursing assessment and associated skills with a focus on a mental health diagnosis.
* Utilizes basic physical and psychosocial skills by identifying actual/potential nursing/clinical problems based on bio-psycho-social- spiritual assessment data of the client and their families or caregivers and documents findings.
* Assessing patients’ mental health status through interviews, observations, and clinical assessments to identify their specific behavioral health needs and establish care plans.
* Administering medications as prescribed, monitoring for side effects, and educating patients on medication management specific to psychiatric conditions.
* Demonstrates critical thinking in application of the nursing process.
* Initiates and establishes comprehensive individualized nursing plan of care within 24 hours of start of care visit, reflecting admission through discharge planning.
* Develops patient centered goals, in collaboration with clients, their families and the rehabilitation team that are oriented to wellness behavior, are reality based, encourage socialization with others and promote maximal independence for patients with disabilities or chronic conditions.
* Recognizes and documents subtle changes in patient’s condition, including complex patient care situations, and follows through with appropriate nursing action.
* Functions independently and effectively in emergency situations.
Acts as a resource to other members of the health care team.
* Completes documentation according to guidelines and regulations
* Evaluates the outcome of care and revises the plan of care appropriately to achieve desired outcomes.
* Plans own work and the work of assigned staff in appropriate priorities and sequences; delegate’s tasks as appropriate; coordinates patient care efforts to be complete during the designated shift in a timely manner.
* Completes a medication reconciliation at each SN visit and updates clinical team and physician of any changes, noncompliance, and or side effects

Provides anesthetic care of the patients, exclusively under the direct supervision and guidance of a Pediatric Anesthesiologist.
Job Specific Duties
* Obtains the patient’s medical history and performs physical exam.
* Verifies patient identification, procedure to be done and body site if applicable, and that the informed consent for the planned anesthetic intervention has been obtained from the parent or legal guardian.

* Participates in Time Out, verification of patient’s identity, procedure and site.
* Together with the supervising anesthesiologist administers the anesthetic plan that was determined to be the best plan for the patient’s need.
* Inserts peripheral venous catheters, radial artery catheters or central venous catheter if deemed necessary under the supervision of the anesthesiologist.
* Performs supervised, safe and effective techniques during mask ventilation, tracheal intubation, extubation and mechanical ventilation of the patient.
* Provides anesthesia care consistent with infection control and anesthetic safety.
* Continuously monitors patient with pulse oximetry, capnograph, EKG, NIBP or arterial line, and temperature sensors if available, oxygen analyzer, neuromuscular function if applicable and documents every 5 minutes on the anesthesia record.
* Continuously adjusts the level of anesthesia, and alters the technique or amount of respiratory support to meet patient’s needs.
* Observes skin color, the color of the blood in the surgical field and performs arterial blood gas analysis when indicated.
* Constantly monitors blood loss, urine output when possible and records on the anesthesia record.
* Manages patient’s fluid, blood, electrolyte and acid base balance as discussed with the supervising anesthesiologist.
