General Purpose
The primary purpose of your position is to maintain resident medical records and health information systems.
You will ensure all data is handled in accordance with federal and state guidelines, as well as our facility's established privacy policies and procedures.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Administrative & Departmental Support
* Assist in organizing, planning, and directing the medical records department.
* Collaborate with the Medical Records/Health Information Consultant and MDS Coordinator.
* Develop and maintain a strong working rapport with inter-departmental personnel.
* Maintain minutes of meetings and assist in recording incidents/accidents.
Records Management & Filing
* Collect, assemble, check, and file resident charts (manual and electronic).
* File nurses' notes, assessments, progress notes, lab reports, and X-ray results.
* Ensure incomplete records are returned to the appropriate departments for correction.
* Manage the "check-out" process to ensure records do not leave the department without authorization.
Data & Privacy Compliance
* Abstract authorized information for insurance companies, Medicare, Medicaid, and the VA.
* Maintain strict confidentiality of all Protected Health Information (PHI) in accordance with Privacy Rules.
* Protect user ID codes/passwords and report any unauthorized system access attempts.
* Answer telephone inquiries and prepare written correspondence.

* High School Diploma or equivalent.
* Previous experience in medical records or health information management preferred.

General Purpose
