Assistant Coach - Strength and Conditioning

Job Description

Job Title:         Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach

Department:   Athletics & Recreation

Reports to:     Head Strength and Conditioning Coach 

The Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach reports directly to the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach.

The purpose of this position is to assist the head coach in managing all aspects of the strength and conditioning program.

The top priority must be the overall collegiate experience of the student-athlete and a commitment to promoting a positive and healthy culture that encourages growth and development.

Essential Responsibilities:


* Adhere to and enforce all policies and procedures of the department and institution as well as the rules and regulations of the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC), MAC Freedom, the NCAA, and other authorities that may legitimately influence the intercollegiate athletics program.


* Complete all required departmental and institutional training and certification programs and participate in available professional development opportunities.


* Design and implement well-balanced, comprehensive strength and conditioning plans for all intercollegiate student-athletes and teams that meet the needs of each program.


* Work together with sports medicine staff to prepare specialized training programs for those athletes who may be recovering from injury.


* Communicate and collaborate with the coaching staff to ensure that time spent in the weight room by the student-athletes is efficient and as effective as possible.


* Assist the head coach in developing and submitting the annual budget with a focus on equipment needs that will enhance the effectiveness of student-athlete training.


* Monitor maintenance of equipment; cleanliness of the facility; and other needs of the varsity weight room.


* Assist with the selection, installation, and service of equipment.


* Assist with on-campus recruiting activities for prospective student-athletes as needed.


* Perform all other duties as assigned by the head strength and conditioning coach.

Qualifications:

Education


* Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.

Experience


* Prior work as a strength and conditioning coach in an intercollegiate athletics setting is strongly preferred.

Specific Skills


* Communicate effectively and professionally, including written, interpersonal, and public speaking.


* Must be willing to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Specialized Licenses


* First Aid, CPR, AED training certification required.


* Certification by an accredited professional organization (National Strength and Conditioning Association or equivalent).
